Jammu and Kashmir officials receive promotions as corruption charges filed

The Jammu and Kashmir Labour Department has approved promotions and non-functional career advancements for 16 officials. Chaired by Labour Commissioner Charandeep Singh, the Departmental Promotion Committee reviewed service records to elevate several employees, including three Labour Inspectors to Labour Officers and various staff members to roles such as Supervisor and Junior Assistant. Singh noted that timely career progression is essential for maintaining a motivated and accountable workforce.

Separately, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has filed a charge sheet against Mohammad Farooq, a former junior assistant in the Zonal Education Officer's office in Rajouri district. The case involves the alleged embezzlement of funds and foodgrains intended for the Mid-Day Meal Scheme during the 2014-15 period. Investigators claim that records were manipulated to misappropriate approximately 256.40 quintals of rice and cooking costs, resulting in a total loss to the state exchequer of roughly ₹12.65 lakh. The court has scheduled the next hearing for September 29, 2026.
