Jammu and Kashmir Police SOG Officer Injured in Accidental Shooting in Anantnag
On July 31, 2026 a member of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operations Group was injured when his service weapon discharged unintentionally during a patrol in the Magam area of Kokernag, Anantnag district. The officer, identified as Mohd Altaf Khan, son of Habibullah Khan, suffered a gunshot wound to the foot. He received initial treatment at the Sub‑District Hospital in Kokernag before being transferred to Government Medical College Hospital in Anantnag for further care.
The incident was reported as accidental, with no other personnel harmed. The SOG, a tactical unit created in 1994 to conduct anti‑militancy, counter‑terrorism and high‑risk law‑enforcement operations across Jammu and Kashmir, continues its operational duties in the region.
