Jammu and Kashmir expands rural infrastructure and rooftop solar
The Jammu and Kashmir government reviewed progress on 908 Rural Infrastructure Development Fund projects totaling Rs 4,303.08 crore, of which 157 are completed and 751 are under execution. Officials urged faster approvals and district‑level monitoring to avoid delays.
Data presented to Parliament showed the Union Territory has 1,544 single‑teacher schools and 91,569 teachers across primary to higher‑secondary levels. In the same period, 1,611 new cooperative societies were registered – 232 primary agricultural credit societies, 1,339 dairy cooperatives and 40 fisheries cooperatives.
During the Kharif 2026 season, fertilizer stocks in Jammu and Kashmir exceeded assessed requirements for urea, DAP, MOP and NPKS, indicating a surplus across all major inputs. The state also recorded 38,665 rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar scheme, serving 38,818 households and receiving Rs 298.93 crore in central assistance.
Nationally, the PM Surya Ghar programme has installed more than 40 million rooftop solar systems, benefitting roughly 48 million households and providing zero‑bills to about 1.9 million families, with Maharashtra reporting the highest number of zero‑bill beneficiaries.
