Jammu and Kashmir Schools Serve 17,954 Midday Meals Under PM-POSHAN

The Ministry of Education reported that 17,954 government schools in Jammu and Kashmir are providing mid‑day meals under the PM‑POSHAN scheme, with an additional 775 schools in Ladakh participating. The centre has issued quality, safety and hygiene guidelines but has not set a deadline for registering all participating schools with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Data presented to Parliament shows that only 3,066 of the 24,228 operational schools in Jammu and Kashmir have smart classrooms, while 6,203 have computer facilities and 8,550 have internet connectivity. The digital gap is wider in rural areas, where the majority of these facilities are located. In Ladakh, 356 of 883 schools have smart classrooms. Teacher training in digital pedagogy has fluctuated, with 97,141 teachers trained in 2020‑21 and 7,890 in 2025‑26, supported by increased funding under the Samagra Shiksha scheme.
