Jammu and Kashmir sees declines in education and foodgrain allocations

Data presented in the Lok Sabha reveals significant changes in educational and nutritional resource allocations for Jammu and Kashmir. Under the PM-POSHAN scheme, the Union Territory is set to receive 21,924.79 metric tonnes of foodgrains for 2025-26, representing a 2.5 per cent decrease from the 22,476.70 metric tonnes allocated in the previous year.

Separately, the Centre has announced a sharp reduction in funding for elementary education under the Samagra Shiksha scheme. The allocation for 2026-27 has fallen to Rs 633.53 crore, a nearly 38 per cent decline from the Rs 1,017.75 crore sanctioned for 2025-26. The Ministry of Education noted that such allocations depend on approved annual plans, expenditure levels, and compliance with financial requirements, including the presence of unspent balances from previous years.
