Jammu and Kashmir Speaker addresses language and EWS certificate issues

Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather has announced that the government is working on a mechanism to facilitate the use of the Kashmiri language during assembly proceedings. Rather acknowledged that the current lack of translators in the House has created hurdles for legislators who wish to speak in their mother tongue. He clarified that while members are not prevented from speaking in Kashmiri, their remarks cannot be officially recorded without translation services.

Additionally, Rather has directed the government to examine alleged regional imbalances in the issuance of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) certificates. This follows concerns raised during the recent autumn session regarding disparities in how these certificates are distributed. The Speaker emphasized the need for a serious review to ensure that no section of society faces injustice or inequitable access to benefits provided under the EWS category.
