Jammu and Kashmir Statehood Restoration Debate Intensifies Ahead of Parliament Session
National Conference MP Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan said the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is a constitutional and democratic right and urged the Centre to fulfill promises made to the Supreme Court and Parliament. He announced a sit‑in protest at Jantar Mantar timed with the opening of Parliament’s Monsoon Session, calling for a review of the 2019 decision that split the former state into two Union Territories.
BJP Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma denounced the NC protest as an “eyewash”, accusing the Omar Abdullah government of poor governance, corruption and neglect of basic services. Sharma reiterated the BJP’s support for statehood, saying any decision will follow a security assessment, and praised the Modi government’s record on law and order in the region.
