Jammu & Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah launches major development projects and seeks statehood restoration

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah handed appointment letters to 132 junior engineers in the Public Works Department, describing the move as a step to accelerate infrastructure work in the Union Territory.

He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, discussing the restoration of Jammu & Kashmir's statehood, the region's financial position and the pace of development, and expressed optimism that the talks would benefit the people of J&K.

In Srinagar, the CM laid foundation stones for two sewerage infrastructure projects—a Rs 12 crore upgrade of the 17.08 MLD plant at Brarinambal and a Rs 14.54 crore new 2.5 MLD plant with 3.95 km of sewers at Chattabal—aimed at improving urban sanitation.

In Bandipora district, he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 18 projects worth about Rs 100 crore, covering a new degree college, a footbridge over the Jhelum, a female student hostel, school buildings, road upgrades, water supply schemes and other urban and agricultural infrastructure.
