Jammu & Kashmir Congress chief pushes probe into MLA assault as NC joins statehood campaign

Congress president Tariq Hameed Karra wrote to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah demanding a thorough investigation into the alleged assault on Congress MLA Nizam‑ud‑din Bhat by National Conference workers during a development‑review meeting in Bandipora. Karra called for strict action, stressing the need to uphold alliance principles and restore confidence among coalition partners.

Karra also announced that the National Conference has now aligned with Congress’s year‑old campaign for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. He emphasized that statehood, not cabinet expansion, remains the party’s priority, stating, “Our issue is statehood. We will not be part of the cabinet until statehood is restored.”
