Jammu & Kashmir FDA Inspections Target Food Safety, Collect Over 140 Samples

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of Jammu & Kashmir carried out a large‑scale enforcement drive across the union territory, inspecting food establishments in more than a dozen districts. The inspections, numbering 149 in one report and 175 in another, focused on high‑risk items such as meat, meat products and sweets, and also included surveillance samples from Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) centres.

A total of 129 to 142 food samples were collected for laboratory testing. Eight food business operators were cited for hygiene violations in the first report, while four improvement notices and seven compounded offences were recorded in the second. Penalties of roughly ₹11,000–₹11,500 were imposed, and legal action was initiated against violators. The FDA urged consumers to report unsafe or adulterated food via its toll‑free helpline 104.

The department said the surveillance and enforcement activities will continue, aiming to ensure safe and quality food for residents of Jammu & Kashmir.
