Jammu Kashmir High Court refuses to quash corruption cases against officials
The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has dismissed two separate petitions seeking to quash corruption-related FIRs against government officials.
In the first case, the court refused to quash a bribery FIR against Rohit Sharma, a Tehsildar in the J&K Administrative Service. The investigation, which was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), reportedly found sufficient evidence regarding the demand and recovery of illegal gratification. The case stems from an allegation that Sharma demanded Rs 2 lakh to issue a land document.
In a second ruling, the court dismissed a petition by Laiq Parvez, the former General Manager of the District Industries Centre in Pulwama. The investigation involves allegations that Parvez abused his official position to facilitate 48 industrial estate land allotments during his tenure from 2017 to 2018. The court noted that stifling the investigation would effectively reward the alleged misconduct.
