Jammu & Kashmir Leaders Urge Statehood Restoration; CM Omar Abdullah Calls for United Movement

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah urged the suspension of party identities and the creation of a single democratic platform to regain the constitutional rights taken away in 2019. He said he would resign first if such a collective movement emerged and warned against efforts to radicalise Kashmiri youth.

The ruling National Conference announced that its legislators, MPs and allied parties will protest in New Delhi on the opening day of the Monsoon parliamentary session, demanding the immediate restoration of statehood and constitutional guarantees for Jammu and Kashmir. The decision was taken after a meeting of party lawmakers held off‑site at Dachigam National Park.

Both moves aim to unify political action within the region and pressure the central government to reinstate the former special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
