Jammu & Kashmir orders audit of school books over separatist content

The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has instructed all government schools, recognised private schools and coaching centres in the Union Territory to inspect every publication in classrooms, libraries and other facilities within seven days. Institutions must submit compliance certificates and detailed reports on any material deemed objectionable, anti‑national, factually incorrect or unsuitable for students. Non‑compliance may attract disciplinary action.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has ordered a division‑wide audit and the creation of a standard operating procedure for procuring academic material. Heads of institutions are required to declare the absence of such literature and remove any offending content from physical and digital collections. The move follows the withdrawal of disputed books and a criminal case registered by the Jammu and Kashmir police against officials involved in the controversy.
