Jammu & Kashmir police seize heroin worth ₹25 crore near LoC in Poonch district

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) recovered heroin valued at over ₹25 crore (approximately $3 million) from a village near the Line of Control in Poonch district, Jammu & Kashmir, on 18 July. The haul, seized in Kosalyain of Haveli tehsil, is reported as one of the largest drug seizures near the LoC in recent years.

Authorities said the heroin was smuggled across the border through an organized network linked to Pakistan‑based traffickers. A suspect involved in the operation was arrested, and investigations continue to identify other dealers, cross‑border middlemen and local facilitators. Security agencies warned that proceeds from such trafficking often fund extremist activities in the region, and reiterated the role of police, army and border security forces in curbing smuggling along the frontier.
