Jammu Railway Police arrest 1991 blast accused after 35 years

The Government Railway Police (GRP) Jammu has arrested Altaf Hussain Sheikh, an accused in a 1991 bomb blast at the Jammu Railway Station. Sheikh had been an absconder for 35 years.

The explosion occurred on April 2, 1991, at platform number 1 of the station, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including two paramilitary personnel, and injuring 18 civilians. While one accomplice, Aman Ullah Khan, was arrested during the initial investigation, three others escaped.

Following an intensive two-year manhunt, police identified Sheikh, who had been living under a concealed identity as a successful businessman in the Bijbehara area of Anantnag district. He was produced before the TADA Court on August 13, 2026, for further legal proceedings.
