A 22-year-old man, identified as Muthusamy, has been arrested in Chennai for the alleged rape of a 17-year-old girl. Police report that the suspect befriended the minor through Instagram before taking her to a deserted area near Somangalam on a motorcycle, where the assault occurred.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at a government hospital near Tambaram following the incident. Authorities have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the suspect has been lodged in jail.
In a separate development, Tamil Nadu Police have launched a reinvestigation into sexual abuse allegations involving an 84-year-old businessman. A four-member Special Investigation Team consisting of women IPS officers has been formed to re-examine the case, and officials who previously closed the investigation have been summoned to explain their actions.
Separately, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted a multi-agency mock exercise at Porbandar Airport in coordination with the Indian Navy. The drill focused on aerial threats and drone sightings to enhance inter-agency communication and response preparedness. The exercise included a drone-awareness session covering detection and jamming technologies.
