Jamtara sanitation workers protest unpaid wages by dumping garbage on streets

Sanitation workers under the Jamtara Nagar Panchayat in Jharkhand staged a protest on Thursday, dumping garbage across major city roads to demand unpaid wages. Approximately 87 workers participated in the demonstration, which moved from the Nagar Panchayat office through Subhash Chowk, Tower Chowk, and the main market toward Indra Chowk.

The workers reported that they have not received their honorarium for the past three and a half to four months, leading to severe financial hardship. Despite multiple appeals to the Nagar Panchayat president and senior officials, the issue remains unresolved. The protesters warned that their movement would continue until all arrears are paid.

The protest occurred during the Durga Puja festival, causing significant disruption to the city's cleanliness and creating inconvenience for residents and shoppers in busy areas. Soma Khandet, the Executive Officer of Jamtara Nagar Panchayat, stated that the administration is aware of the protest and is making necessary arrangements to address the situation.
