Jan Blachowicz left without opponent after UFC reshuffles Belgrade card

Former light‑heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz was set to fight Bogdan Guskov at UFC Fight Night in Belgrade on Aug. 1. A week before the event, the UFC announced that Khalil Rountree Jr. had withdrawn from the Abu Dhabi main event, prompting the promotion to move Guskov to replace him against top‑ranked Magomed Ankalaev.

Blachowicz said the UFC first approached him with an offer to fight Ankalaev on short notice. He hesitated because he was unsure he could make weight, then confirmed the bout after a few hours, only to learn the contract with Guskov was already finalized. He described the situation as a “communication mistake” and confirmed he is now waiting for a new opponent for the Belgrade card. The organization may find a lower‑ranked or debutant opponent, or shift Blachowicz to another future event.
