Jaén begins second phase of Avenida de Madrid sanitation works
The Jaén City Council and Aqualia are commencing the second phase of sanitation and drainage improvement works on Avenida de Madrid on Tuesday, November 3. This new section extends from Calle Virgen de la Cabeza to Calle Baeza.
During this phase, traffic will be restricted to one ascending lane and two descending lanes. While the main avenue is affected, Calle Virgen de la Capilla and Calle Baeza will remain open to traffic to ensure access for residents and local businesses.
The project, which has a total budget of 2.8 million euros and an estimated duration of six months, aims to replace a nearly century-old sewage network that has caused frequent breakdowns and basement leakages. Work includes demolishing sidewalks, replacing urban furniture, installing corrugated PVC piping, renewing storm drains, and planting new trees to replace those damaged during construction.
Following this stage, a third section between Calle Baeza and Calle Santo Reino will begin. The first section of the project, located between Avenida de Ruiz Jiménez and El Corte Inglés, is entering its final phase, with the removal of construction fences expected shortly.
