Jaén family evicted despite reports of extreme vulnerability

A mother and her two minor children were evicted from their home in Jaén on Tuesday after a court declined to halt the proceedings. The family had accumulated a debt of 20,000 euros over the last five years due to unpaid rent.

The Plataforma de Afectados por la Hipoteca (PAH) stated that the court had received reports confirming the family’s status of “extreme vulnerability.” Despite requests from a public defender to suspend the eviction—citing pending legislative updates intended to extend protections for vulnerable families until 2030—the court proceeded with the removal.

The family and her partner have been relocated to an Inturjoven shelter while seeking social rental options. Cáritas has reportedly offered alternative housing. The eviction was monitored by 18 local organizations supporting the PAH's efforts to prevent homelessness in the city.
