Jan Frodeno wins M45-49 category at UTMB OCC trail race
Olympic and five-time world champion triathlete Jan Frodeno won the M45-49 category at the OCC, a premier trail running event part of the UTMB World Series. Competing in the race around Mont Blanc, the 45-year-old completed the 61.4-kilometer course in 6 hours, 31 minutes, and 55 seconds.
Frodeno finished 58th overall in a field of nearly 2,000 runners. He secured his category victory with a margin of nearly 25 minutes over the second-place finisher. The course featured approximately 3,500 meters of positive elevation gain across technical terrain. The overall winner of the race was Frenchman Frédéric Tranchand, who finished in 5 hours, 10 minutes, and 8 seconds.
Following a 23-year professional triathlon career, Frodeno has transitioned to ultra running to reduce repetitive strain on his joints. He noted that the varied terrain of mountain running allows him to test his endurance while minimizing the specific pains associated with road running.
