Jan Frycz, prominent Polish actor, passes away at 72

Renowned Polish actor Jan Frycz passed away on August 15, 2026, at the age of 72, following a battle with a serious illness. He died at his family home surrounded by loved ones.

Frycz was a highly respected figure in Polish theater and film, having performed in over 150 stage productions and more than 100 films and television projects. He was a long-time pillar of the Stary Teatr in Krakow and was associated with the National Theatre in Warsaw. His notable roles included performances in works by directors such as Andrzej Wajda and Krystian Lupa, and he gained recent acclaim for his role in the series ‘Ślepnąc od świateł’.

A state funeral has been organized for the actor. His son, Michał Frycz, announced that the ceremony will take place on September 7, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Military Cemetery on Powązki in Warsaw. The Ministry of Culture and National Heritage confirmed the state character of the proceedings.
