Jaén: Heritage and olive groves in Andalucía
The province of Jaén in Andalucía, Spain, is characterized by its deep connection between historical heritage and its vast olive groves. The landscape is defined by extensive olive plantations that serve as both an economic pillar and a central element of the region's cultural and gastronomic identity.
Key historical and architectural landmarks include the monumental cities of Úbeda and Baeza, as well as the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin in Jaén. Designed by Renaissance architect Andrés de Vandelvira, the cathedral served as an aesthetic model for major cathedrals in Latin America. Other notable sites include the Santo Rostro, which houses a traditional religious relic, and the Castillo de Santa Catalina.
