Jaén registers over 207,000 companion animals

The province of Jaén has recorded 207,563 registered companion animals, marking a 3.6% increase compared to September 2025. According to data from the Junta de Andalucía updated in October, dogs constitute the vast majority of these pets, with 186,299 registrations. Other registered animals include 19,983 cats, 1,148 ferrets, and 133 pets of other types.

Jaén accounts for 7.8% of the total 2.6 million registered pets in Andalusia. Within the province, there are 3,734 dogs classified as potentially dangerous breeds, primarily American Staffordshire Terriers and Pit Bull Terriers. Additionally, Jaén has 216 registered feline colonies containing 745 cats, which is the lowest number of colonies in the Andalusian region.

Registration in the Andalusian Animal Identification Registry (RAIA) is mandatory for owners. The system is used to facilitate sanitary programs, locate lost or stolen animals, and assist in cases of animal abuse. The statistics exclude animals over 15 years old that have not been vaccinated against rabies within the last two years.
