Jaén Tram to implement cardio-safe corridor with defibrillators
The Junta de Andalucía has launched a tender to supply and maintain eleven defibrillators for the Jaén tram system. The initiative aims to create a ‘cardio-safe corridor’ spanning nearly five kilometers, from Vaciacostales to Plaza de la Constitución.
The equipment will be installed at all ten tram stops as well as the workshops and garages in Vaciacostales. With a base budget of 68,071 euros, the contract includes the provision of devices equipped with geolocation and lithium batteries, alongside protective display cases and informative signage.
The project is expected to provide coverage for approximately 45,000 residents living within 500 meters of the stops. Beyond equipment installation, the contract mandates 48 months of maintenance and specialized training for tram personnel, including drivers, operations, and security staff. This training is intended to help the service achieve the ‘Zona Cardioasegurada’ distinction from the Public Emergency Health Company (EPES). In the event of a cardiac arrest, users can call 061 for step-by-step guidance on using the devices.
