Janata Dal (United) considers renaming party to ‘JD(U)-Nitish’

The Janata Dal (United) is considering a proposal to rename the party ‘JD(U)-Nitish’ to honor its supreme leader and former Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar. The suggestion was introduced by JD(U) working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, who stated in a viral video that the party’s standing and ideology are fundamentally based on Kumar’s political philosophy.

Several high-ranking party members, including Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav and minister Shrawon Kumar, have expressed support for the move. Yadav suggested that a formal discussion be held to reach a decision, while Kumar proposed that a formal resolution be brought to the party for a unanimous vote.

Nitish Kumar has been the de facto leader of the party for many years, formally taking over the national presidency in 2016. The party was originally formed in 2003 following a merger between the Janata Dal (United) and the Samata Party.
