Jandino Asporaat faces criticism over weight-related jokes on NPO Zapp
Comedian Jandino Asporaat is facing criticism following a sketch in his new program, ‘De Hopi Snelle Show’, which airs on the Dutch youth channel NPO Zapp. In the segment, Asporaat’s character, Judeska, makes disparaging remarks about a young girl’s weight, suggesting that losing weight would take ‘hopi lang’ (a very long time) and joking that her father would need a crane truck to pick her up.
Critics, including media personality Tina Nijkamp, have condemned the content as fatshaming, noting the irony of the jokes appearing on a channel that actively campaigns against bullying.
In response to the backlash, the broadcaster AvroTros defended the program, stating that the sketches are intended as ‘satire and absurdist humor’ designed to bring a diverse family audience together. When asked if they recognized the comments as body shaming, AvroTros maintained that the program is satire and declined further comment.
