Jane Austen adaptation ‘Sense and Sensibility’ sets US opening record

The new film adaptation of Jane Austen’s ‘Sense and Sensibility’, directed by Georgia Oakley, has set a new domestic opening record for an Austen adaptation in the United States. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, the production is projected to earn approximately US$ 6.7 million during its opening weekend, surpassing the previous record held by the 2016 release ‘Pride and Prejudice and Zombies’.

The film has also received positive audience feedback, maintaining a 90% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. This commercial and critical success coincides with a broader trend of literary adaptations gaining traction through social media influence, particularly via platforms like BookTok, which has been shown to significantly impact reading and viewing habits among younger demographics.
