Jane Austen adaptations arrive on stage and screen

Jane Austen's literary works are seeing new interpretations across stage and screen. In South King County, Emerald Theatre is performing a modernized adaptation of "Emma" based on Kate Hamill’s version. Directed by Earlene DeLeon, the romantic comedy production has been traveling through the Greater Seattle area and will hold its final free shows at Covington Community Park on August 15 and 16.

On film, writer-director Georgia Oakley is set to release a new screen adaptation of "Sense and Sensibility" in U.S. theaters on October 16. Produced by Working Title and distributed by Focus Features and Universal Pictures International, the film follows Oakley's previous acclaimed work, "Blue Jean." The production was filmed in the United Kingdom with a script by Diana Reid.
