Jane Coates, the mother of British fashion buyer Lucy Harrison, is traveling to the United States to campaign for the reopening of an investigation into her daughter's death.

Ms. Harrison was shot through the chest by her father, Kris Harrison, at his home in Prosper, Texas, on January 10, 2025. Mr. Harrison claimed the Glock handgun discharged accidentally while he was showing it to her. While a grand jury in Collin County previously decided there was insufficient evidence to bring criminal charges, an English coroner concluded that the incident amounted to gross negligence manslaughter under UK law.

Ms. Coates has expressed feeling “incredibly alone” and “deserted by the British authorities” during her pursuit of justice. She intends to meet with the district attorney to request a fresh investigation and has sought legal assistance from Radd Seiger, who previously advised the family of Harry Dunn.
