Jane Schoenbrun’s ‘Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma’ Premieres at Cannes
Writer‑director Jane Schoenbrun’s third feature, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, opened the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in May 2026. The film reboots a fictional 1980s slasher franchise, following a young queer filmmaker, Kris (played by Hannah Einbinder), tasked with reviving the series for a new generation.
The movie, which won the Queer Palme at Cannes, explores the cultural impact of media artifacts and will be released in theaters and on the streaming platform Mubi later this year. Critics note its blend of horror thrills, sexual tension, and commentary on how movies shape personal identity.
