Janelle Rodriguez to exit NBC News as EVP of Programming

Janelle Rodriguez is departing NBC News after nearly 12 years as Executive Vice President of Programming. In a memo to staff, Rodriguez stated she decided to leave to pursue new opportunities, noting that the recent conclusion of major events like the Olympics and the World Cup made it the “right moment.”

During her tenure, Rodriguez was credited with building the 24/7 streaming service NBC News NOW and overseeing “NBC Nightly News” and various breaking news specials. Her leadership included managing the network’s “Decision 2024” election coverage and the launch of “NBC News Daily.”

Following her exit, NBC News is reorganizing its senior leadership. Catherine Kim has been promoted to Executive Vice President of Editorial and Content, a role that expands her responsibilities to include NBC News NOW and special programming. Matt Carluccio will take on additional oversight of editorial units, including business, health, investigations, and climate. Additionally, Matt Frucci, the executive producer of “Nightly News,” will now report directly to NBC News editorial president Rebecca Blumenstein.
