Janez Janša Takes Office as New Slovenian Prime Minister

Former prime minister Robert Golob handed over power to Janez Janša, leader of the Slovenian Democratic Party, marking the formation of Slovenia’s 16th government. Golob congratulated Janša, noting that Slovenia is a safe and stable country and wishing him “wisdom, prudence and confidence” to lead the nation. Janša thanked Golob for the achievements of the previous administration, pledged cooperation, and said an assessment of the state of affairs will follow the transition. Ministerial portfolios will be transferred mainly on Friday, with a full cabinet of 15 ministers to be sworn in during an inaugural session held the same night. Janša will serve as prime minister for the next four years.
