Jang Dong-hyeok criticizes high-cost Brazilian egg imports
Jang Dong-hyeok, leader of the People Power Party, has raised allegations regarding the high cost of imported Brazilian eggs. He criticized the government for importing Brazilian eggs at 1,300 won per unit, noting that this price is significantly higher than imports from the United States (464 won) and Thailand (305 won).
Jang pointed out that the import process for Brazilian eggs began following a summit between President Lee Jae-myung and Brazilian President Lula da Silva in February. He further noted that 1.12 million Brazilian eggs were imported immediately after President Lee's visit to Brazil in July.
While the government has defended the move as a strategy to diversify supply sources, Jang argued that diversification should aim to lower costs rather than increase them by three to four times. He questioned whether the high import prices, which he claims are six times higher than local Brazilian consumer prices, constitute a political connection to international leftist leaders using taxpayer funds.
