Janhvi Kapoor addresses objectification controversy in Peddi

Actress Janhvi Kapoor has addressed the backlash regarding her portrayal in the film ‘Peddi’, describing the experience as “violating” and admitting the character's presentation involved “extreme objectification.”

Appearing on ‘Koffee with Karan 9’, Kapoor acknowledged that the film’s narrative potentially propagated sexual assault and expressed regret for not being more vigilant. She noted that the negative impact of such portrayals on women and society weighs heavily on her conscience.

Kapoor explained that in the South Indian film industry, actors do not always receive bound scripts or advance notice regarding specific camera angles. While she noted the importance of professional conduct toward directors, she admitted she should have leveraged her privilege to question the material more actively to ensure it did not happen again.
