Janin Ullmann warns that Tradwife influencers profit from a romanticized dependency narrative
German TV presenter and actress Janin Ullmann used an Instagram post to criticize the growing “Tradwife” influencer trend. She described the content as portraying a nostalgic, conservative lifestyle – perfect dresses, sourdough bread and happy children – while concealing a lucrative business model. Ullmann argued that many of these creators earn substantial sums from their videos, contradicting the messages that encourage women to surrender financial responsibility to their husbands. According to her, the most successful “Tradwives” are not housewives at all but hard‑charging entrepreneurs who are financially more independent than their partners. The trend, largely visible in the United States, reaches millions of viewers, but Ullmann cautioned followers not to be misled by the staged romantic ideal.
Ullmann, who advocates for women’s financial independence, concluded with a plea: live as you choose but do not fall for the show, noting that a marriage is not a pension plan and a husband is not a financial safety net.
