Janis Joplin legacy celebrated with new media and musical productions
The 60th anniversary of Janis Joplin’s first live performance with Big Brother & the Holding Company is being marked by a series of commemorative projects. Legacy Recordings is releasing new content, including a music video for “Call On Me,” alongside photography exhibitions in Los Angeles and New York City organized with the Morrison Hotel Gallery. Additionally, Sumerian Comics is collaborating with Joplin’s estate on a graphic novel.
In the performing arts, the concert musical “A Night With Janis Joplin” is currently playing at American Stage through October 11. Actress Laura Frye portrays the blues-rock legend, recreating Joplin’s iconic stage presence and musical hits. The production focuses on capturing the essence of Joplin’s performance style and her historical impact on the rock genre.
