Janja reaches settlement with former Corinthians councilor

Brazil's First Lady, Rosângela da Silva (Janja), has reached a legal settlement with Manoel Ramos Evangelista, a former lifelong councilor of the Corinthians football club, known as Mané da Carne.

The lawsuit, filed in early 2023, stemmed from social media posts made by Evangelista in December 2022 following the election of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. In those posts, Evangelista directed sexual insults toward Janja and attacked the President. Janja's legal team argued the comments were misogynistic and intended to diminish her professional and social standing.

Under the terms of the agreement, Evangelista will pay R$ 5,000 in damages and issue a public retraction. This amount is significantly lower than the initial R$ 50,000 requested by the First Lady. The settlement is currently undergoing judicial proceedings in the 3rd Civil Court of the Pinheiros Regional Forum in São Paulo.
