Janni Haapaniemi shares creative Halloween food ideas

Home economics lecturer Janni Haapaniemi, who teaches at the University of Helsinki, provides tips for creating themed Halloween treats. Following a recent Halloween cooking course held at the Paimio Institute for children and adults, Haapaniemi suggests using creative names and visual cues to enhance the holiday spirit.

Practical decorating ideas include using pastry dough to create shapes like ghosts or crabs, and wrapping sausages in dough to resemble mummies. Other suggestions involve using common ingredients to mimic creepy elements: grapes on skewers with edible eyes can represent worms, raisins with almond slices can look like flies, and cucumber slices can be shaped into skulls. For themed presentation, mozzarella and cherry tomatoes can be arranged to look like toadstools.
