Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz face injury challenges

Top tennis players Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are facing significant physical challenges during the 2026 season due to injuries. Carlos Alcaraz, despite a strong start including an Australian Open title, was sidelined during the clay and grass seasons by a wrist injury. Jannik Sinner secured titles in Madrid, Rome, and Wimbledon, but a knee injury has prevented him from competing in the US Open.

Former coach Riccardo Piatti has warned that the demanding professional calendar and constant travel are primary drivers behind these injuries. Speaking to Tennis Temple, Piatti noted that the pressure from sponsors, organizers, and increased media attention makes it difficult for players to find necessary rest. He emphasized that without careful tournament selection and physical balance, such injuries could hinder the development or prematurely end the careers of young talents like Sinner, Alcaraz, and Lorenzo Musetti.

Despite these setbacks, both players are planning returns. Alcaraz intends to compete in the US Open, the Laver Cup, the Six Kings Slam, and the Asian tour. Sinner is preparing to return for tournaments in Beijing and Shanghai.
