Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz face injury challenges in 2026 season

Tennis players Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz have faced significant injury setbacks during the 2026 season. Jannik Sinner, currently leading the ATP rankings, has been sidelined since July due to a knee injury following his Wimbledon victory. Sinner noted that patience is essential during recovery, stating, “The body is the only opponent you cannot beat; when it tells you to stop, you have to accept it and follow the advice of specialists.”

Carlos Alcaraz also missed significant time between April and August due to a wrist injury, causing him to miss two Grand Slam tournaments. Despite these absences, American player Ben Shelton argued that the dominance of Sinner and Alcaraz remains intact, noting their high number of titles and major wins this year. Shelton suggested that while younger players are becoming more competitive, claiming the duo's hegemony is diminishing is “unfair.”

Due to his injury, Sinner is expected to return to competition in January, though he faces the possibility of being overtaken in the rankings by Alexander Zverev before the season concludes.
