Jannik Sinner ends 2026 season early due to knee injury

Jannik Sinner has officially ended his 2026 tennis season early due to a knee injury, specifically identified as iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS). The decision to stop competing follows a successful season that included a Wimbledon title, but the injury has persisted since July.

Sinner has opted for conservative therapy rather than surgery to manage the inflammation. His absence means he will miss the remaining ATP tournaments, including the Paris Masters, the ATP Finals in Turin, and the Davis Cup. As a result of his withdrawal, Alexander Zverev is set to ascend to the world No. 1 ranking by the end of the year.

Sinner is expected to focus on rehabilitation and strength training, with a projected return to competitive play in 2027. He is already listed for the '1 Point Slam' exhibition in Melbourne to test his condition ahead of the Australian Open.
