Jannik Sinner reaches Wimbledon second round and calls for progress on player welfare talks

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner defeated Miomir Kecmanović 4‑6, 6‑3, 6‑7(6), 6‑2, 6‑3 in his opening Wimbledon match, advancing to the second round despite a nail injury that caused bleeding on his white shoe. After the victory, Sinner said he was grateful to continue playing and praised his performance.

He also addressed ongoing negotiations between top players and the Grand Slam tournaments, noting that while there has been progress, the discussions on prize‑money distribution, player well‑being and a proposed Players’ Council are not yet resolved. Sinner said the Grand Slams understand the players’ demands but further work is needed.
