Michał Moskal suspends PiS membership amid Zondacrypto scandal
Polish MP Michał Moskal has suspended his membership in the Law and Justice (PiS) parliamentary club following allegations involving the Zondacrypto scandal. The decision came after discussions with party leader Jarosław Kaczyński.
The controversy stems from reports that Moskal consulted on proposed amendments to cryptoasset market legislation with Przemysław Kral, the CEO of Zondacrypto. Reports also highlighted a meeting between Moskal and Kral at a hotel in Ibiza. While Moskal denies preparing the amendments or receiving funds from Zondacrypto, claiming the text was prepared by MP Janusz Kowalski, other politicians have criticized the situation. Janusz Kowalski expressed shock, stating that the amendments he prepared were passed to Kral’s associates.
Government officials and political figures have reacted sharply. Minister of Interior Marcin Kierwiński and government spokesperson Adam Szłapka criticized the situation, with Szłapka describing the sequence of events as a ‘crypto-arrangement’. Former Prime Minister Beata Szydło supported Moskal’s decision to suspend his membership but criticized state services for failing to oversee the cryptocurrency platform effectively.
