Japan advances AI infrastructure and manufacturing technology integration

Japan is seeing significant developments in the intersection of manufacturing technology and energy infrastructure. Everridge Co., Ltd. has announced the ‘Next Generation Manufacturing Comprehensive Exhibition’ (MIX) scheduled for August 2027. The event aims to bridge gaps between AI, robotics, semiconductors, and the automotive sectors to address labor shortages and supply chain complexities through cross-industry collaboration.

Simultaneously, the market for next-generation batteries for AI infrastructure in Japan is expanding. Driven by the growing power demands of AI data centers, there is an increasing need for high-capacity, reliable energy storage solutions. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) has updated its battery strategy to focus on power density and comprehensive power supply systems, aiming to build a domestic manufacturing base of 150GWh annually by the mid-2030s.

Major corporate moves reflect this trend, such as SoftBank’s May 2026 announcement regarding a new battery business aimed at gigawatt-hour scale production to support AI-era infrastructure.
