Japan advances healthcare with physician work reforms and AI‑driven health‑support API

Japan’s aging population and shrinking workforce are straining medical services, prompting a 2024 reform of physicians’ working conditions. Kouyoukai Medical Corporation, led by Director Miki Yamas, is using AI, digital tools and multidisciplinary teamwork to reduce staff fatigue, improve patient safety and sustain regional acute‑care, emergency and long‑term services.

At the same time, Japan System Technology Co., Ltd. (JAST) has launched the “Miravel” health‑support API. The service combines a 10‑million‑person medical big‑data set with generative AI to deliver personalized health information, weather‑related advice and daily lifestyle content such as horoscopes and clothing suggestions. Designed for easy integration into existing apps, Miravel aims to engage health‑disinterested users and support behavior change, with early adoption by Concare’s mental‑support platform.

Both initiatives seek to shift Japan’s health sector from reactive, treatment‑focused care toward preventive, data‑informed services while addressing the shortage of medical personnel.
