The Digital Agency is developing a nationwide 'Government AI' ecosystem, aiming to provide approximately 180,000 government employees with access to a secure AI environment by fiscal year 2026. This includes the creation of common government datasets and the conversion of public information into AI-ready formats.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) is utilizing the GENIAC program to bolster generative AI capabilities. In 2026, METI selected several research and development projects focused on making manufacturing and industrial data AI-compatible, including support for foundation models for robotics. The increasing focus on domestic foundation models is also driving high demand for high-quality, culturally contextualized Japanese language datasets.
