Japan Air Commuter flight grounded by snake on board

A Japan Air Commuter flight at Fukuoka Airport was grounded for nearly two days after a snake was discovered inside the aircraft. The disruption began on October 19 when a pilot spotted an animal in the cockpit, leading to the immediate cancellation of a scheduled flight to Kagoshima.

On October 20, a mechanic located the animal hidden beneath the cabin carpet. The reptile was identified as a non-venomous juvenile Japanese striped snake, measuring approximately 40 centimeters (16 inches) in length. The aircraft, which had arrived from Izumo Airport, was finally able to depart on October 21 after the snake was captured.

The airline, a member of the Japan Airlines group, stated it is currently unknown how the snake entered the plane and noted that it has not experienced a similar incident before. The event has raised questions regarding the effectiveness of pre-flight inspection procedures and airport security protocols.
