Japan air conditioner prices show regional gaps up to 23,000 yen

Data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' 2025 Retail Price Survey reveals significant regional variations in the average price of air conditioning units across Japan.

Chiba Prefecture recorded the highest average price at 104,447 yen, while Miyazaki Prefecture recorded the lowest at 81,162 yen. This represents a maximum price gap of approximately 23,285 yen between the highest and lowest prefectures. The report suggests these disparities are driven by regional differences in climate, housing environments, and local demand for specific features such as high-functionality models or units designed for cold climates.
