Japan Airlines expands fleet and adds emergency flights

Japan Airlines (JAL) group companies are expanding capacity and adjusting operations in response to regional needs. Japan Air Commuter (JAC), based at Kagoshima Airport, announced that two additional ATR72-600 turboprop aircraft are scheduled to begin operations in February 2027. This expansion will bring JAC’s total fleet to 13 aircraft.

Separately, JAL is implementing immediate measures to address travel disruptions caused by the Kumamoto earthquake and the suspension of Kyushu Shinkansen services. Between August 19 and August 31, the airline will operate 101 extra flights on the Fukuoka to Kagoshima route. These temporary flights, which include up to four round trips per day, will utilize Boeing 737, Embraer E170, and ATR42-600 aircraft.
